Safe Slopes
Every year over 150 people are killed in avalanches around the world. Almost all of these are in backcountry areas, out with the control of ski resorts. The reason for many of these accidents is that people become complacent and stop making proper risk assessments. Almost always the victim has been well trained in avalanche awareness and common signs of danger were overlooked.
The Safe Slopes device provides the user with a way of making fast and accurate slope gradient measurements and slope aspect checks. Its simplicity of use would encourage people to stop and take the short amount of time to make a more thorough check. With this information, along with their existing knowledge, the user can make a better informed decision and avoid potentially dangerous slopes.
With a 140-hour battery life and able to function in temperatures down to -40OC, it can handle the most extreme of weather conditions.
