Grub Club

Animal agriculture has a terrible environmental impact; responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions and occupying 80% of farmland while only providing us with 18% of calories and 37% of protein. The efficient use of resources in the farming of insects offers a sustainable alternative for us to meet our nutritional needs.

Grub Club is a unit for use in primary schools, aiming to empower children in the ability to make sustainable choices in their diets and providing them with the skills to be able to produce some of their own food.

The 3 farm modules provide a weekly yield of mealworms, processed into a nice crispy snack using a freezer and dehydrator, also contained within the unit. The bugs live in an oat bran substrate providing most of their food while additional nutrients and hydration come from fruit and veg scraps, like apple cores, placed into the farm trays.
