FORESIGHT

Since 2003, all types of incidents attended by the Scottish Fire and Rescue service have dropped by over 50%. Although this implies that Scotland is progressing to be a safer society, it is also having a direct and detrimental effect on the operational competence and experience of firefighters today. FORESIGHT aims to combat this negative impact by empowering firefighters through granting them access to relevant, real-time situational and environmental data, visualised hands-free using augmented reality.

A smart array of sensors, situated in a module in the backplate of the firefighter’s harness, gathers and processes data, merging it with operational intelligence downloaded en-route to ensure that the firefighter always has access to the information they need without relying on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or Radio signals. Captured data analytics can be used to analyse the effectiveness of response plans and monitor the effect of the extreme environments on the firefighter’s health.
