Cammino
Freezing of gait is one of the most frustrating and debilitating symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. It occurs when the brain temporarily stops sending signals to the lower half of the body and the patient becomes stuck on the spot unable to move, leading to serious falls and hospital admissions.
Cammino will monitor the users walking pattern and detect changes in gait suggesting they are leading up to a freezing episode. When detected, the belt will provide low frequency electrical stimulation to the muscles via a conductive textile in contact with the skin. The belt will vibrate in synchronisation with the electrical pulses to act as an external rhythmic cue and prompt the user to also walk in time to the beat. Early intervention means the freezing episode can be completely avoided.
